Bentonite
Bentonite is a clay mineral which is largely composed of Montmorillonite, which is mainly a hydrous aluminum silicate. It is highly colloidal and plastic clay with the unique characteristic of swelling to several times its original volume when placed in water. Bentonite was formed from volcanic ash deposited in an ancient sea, and modified by geological process into the present Sodium Bentonite. The multiple properties of Bentonite namely hydration, swelling, water absorption, viscosity, thixotropy make it a multi-application product for diverse industries. Primarily two varieties of Bentonite are available - sodium Bentonite (high swelling, gelling and thermal durability) and calcium Bentonite (more commonly available worldwide but with less swelling).
Ashapura has extensive reserves of both types of Sodium & Calcium based Bentonite in Kutch, Gujarat, India. However, predominantly, most of its reserves are high quality, high montmorilonite based Sodium grades which gives Ashapura the opportunity to produce various quality Bentonite products for diverse industry sectors Bentonite is a highly versatile mineral. When processed carefully, it caters to a wide range of industries, from traditional usage areas such as metal casting, iron ore pelletizing, civil engineering, drilling, pet litter to Speciality application areas such as paper, detergents, cosmetics etc.
Ashapura Midgulf NV AMNV Bentonite line is focused on construction, supplies to Geosynthetic clay liner (GCL), pelletizing industries etc.
